Doris Belland was supposed to be a professor of Neurolinguistics. That was her path until her first husband’s ongoing battle with cancer caused her to leave academia for the world of business.
After her first husband’s death in 1998, Doris turned her sights to a life-long interest: real estate investing. She has since developed a portfolio of properties across Canada. In 2009 she created Blue Ribbon Rent To Own, a company that helps families who can’t qualify for a mortgage get into their own home by using investor funds to buy the house.
In 2012 she welcomed a new business partner, Claude Pilon, to help her expand the company. Their commitment is to help families in the Ottawa area get into their own homes with a program that emphasizes an ethical, win-win approach for everyone involved.
This blog is part of Doris’s research for her first book “If I Had Known”. Her goal is to help women world-wide learn from her lessons and from the the wisdom of widows and divorcees whom she is interviewing for the book.
Doris currently lives in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada with her husband Mark and their two daughters.
